President Muhammadu Buhari today fulfilled his 31-year-old promise to the team that won the 1985 FIFA U-16 World Championship.
The president rewarded each member of the team with 2 million Naira each. He announced the reward as he hosted sports men and women to a reception at the Statehouse Banquet Hall.
Others rewarded at the event included, World scrabble champion, Wellington Jighere with N1.5m while his coach got N1.2m and his team security got N450k reward. The national basketball team, D’tigers got N600k each while their coach got N600k.
According to Onobello.com, the U-16 female basketball team that won silver at the U-16 FIBAAFRICA got N600k each.
Their coaches also got same amount while other officials got N150k.
The Golden Eaglets got N1.2m each while their coach got N900k and Assistant coach got N600k and other team officials got between N200, 000 to -300,000. U-23 AFCON Champions, the athletes at the IPC Asian open (power lifting) and more were also rewarded.
