ROUND TEN – FLOYD MAYWEATHER WINS
05:50: Conor McGregor is stumbling around and the referee decides enough is enough, he calls it off.
Conor McGregor the king of UFC has lost to boxing legend Floyd Mayweather.
The bookies had it right all along, the underdog just couldn’t do it.
The pair embrace in the middle, nice scenes actually – easy to do I suppose when you’ve both become multi-millionaires.
05:46: McGregor comes out SWINING, flying at Mayweather. Could have even been a low-blow, the Irishman’s work-rate has jumped up a notch.
McGregor is holding on to Mayweather now, pushing his body onto him and even falling onto the ropes.
Mayweather is so close to knocking McGregor out here, it’s a matter of time now.
05:42: ‘Give Andy Murray a squash racket and he’d do alright but he wouldn’t beat the world champion at squash’.
Probably fair comment from Adam Smith, Sky Sports’ host commentator.
Carl Froch is purring about Mayweather now, even suggesting he may have picked a round to knock out McGregor given his tendancy for a cheeky bet.
The pair exchange a few blows there, it’s getting a bit sluggy now.
05:39: Carl Froch has Mayweather up by two points after six rounds. 58 to 56. Okay McGregor is likely to fade here but that’s a strong effort from someone who has never fought a professional boxing fight before.
Mayweather looking better than Rocky now though, simply in control of this bout and probably just waiting for his time to strike.
05:34: McGregor flurries Mayweather with a few dirty hits there, maybe that’s his last option in this fight?
But Mayweather is really coming out of his shell now and finding Conor’s chin, really showing his class.
McGregor is flashing smiles whilst getting hit, Mayweather aged 40 looking like an athlete in his prime.
Not one for the boxing purists? Do me a favour what a bloody fight this is.
05:30: Conor is doing a fair bit of grappling now, he does seem to be slowing down like the commentators keep saying.
It feels like the air is coming out of his balloon. He flew out of the traps but Mayweather seems to have him measured. Half the fight done, surely experience comes into it. McGregor’s legs are getting a bit shaky now too.
Oh, and Mayweather pushes him after the bell. Handbags, gentlemen.
05:27: Floyd has now landed a few on McGregor’s chin. Maybe the pendulum is starting to swing the American’s way. McGregor is looking tired and all the pundits are suggesting this might have been Mayweather’s big plan all along.
But BOOM! McGregor lands a lovely right-hander on Mayweather’s bonce. So McGregor is knackered but confident, Mayweather studious and measured.
05:25: Conor McGregor is looking to land that killer shot, and the crowd are behind him. Floyd Mayweather’s reflexes seem to have slowed, well he is 40 after all. McGregor does seem to be using up his energy though…
McGregor Mayweather: A bit of holding from the UFC man
05:20 Wink, shuffle, speed. Carl Froch tells us McGregor’s reflexes are second to none. They certainly look impressive. But he’s getting carried away and doing a bit of grappling.
All the predictions are out of the window, this is anybody’s…
McGregor is smiling, ice packs round his chest in his corner at the break.
05:17: Conor McGregor starts on the offensive, Floyd Mayweather on the defensive. That’s what we expected I guess.
The build-up was genuinely electric but the early stages are chilled. That’s Mayweather dictacting the pace.
Hands behind his back from McGregor. He certainly isn’t fazed by this occassion.
Little swing from McGregor, neither fighter makes any real contact but the Irishman probably edges that one.
McGregor Mayweather intros
05:12: Why does this feel like good guy versus bad guy?
McGregor is getting huge love inside the T-Mobile Arena, for a boxing match despite not being a boxer.
Mayweather, unbelievably coming out of retirement to put his record on the line at 49-0, is getting booed.
The ref is laying down the law to both fighters. McGregor looks like a man possessed, Floyd is kissing his teeth at him.
