A twin bomb blast at Biu market on Saturday has left fifteen persons dead and 53 others badly wounded, according to area police.
Police say two female suicide attackers were employed for the mission. Both strapped with explosive devices, launched the attack in the third largest market in Borno state.
In a statement signed by Victor Isuku, spokesman at the Borno State Police Command, it says on the 2nd of December, “at about 11. 40 am, two female suicide bombers infiltrated and gained entry into Biu town in the Biu Local Government Area .
“One of the bombers detonated an IED strapped on her body within Biu main market, while the other one detonated outside the market square.
“So far, a total of 13 persons, excluding the two suicide bombers, have been confirmed dead in the two explosions, while 53 others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
“Police patrols / EOD teams , led by the Acting Area Commander, Biu , were promptly mobilised and dispatched to the scene.
“The corpses and the injured persons have been evacuated to the General Hospital Biu.”
The police has assured residents that normalcy had been restored and that the area had been rendered safe.
