Barcelona reject Lionel Messi’s transfer plan to focus on Liverpool deal
Barcelona have rejected Lionel Messi’s suggestion to sign Javier Pastore from Paris Saint-Germain in January, according to reports in Spain.
Javier Pastore is reportedly hellbent on leaving Paris Saint-Germain in January after falling out of favour at the Parc des Princes.
The midfielder has reportedly told his team-mates he wants out to bolster his chances of making the Argentina squad for the 2018 World Cup.
Lionel Messi is said to have recommended Barcelona make a move for his fellow countryman once the transfer window opens.
However, Spanish outlet Don Balon claim the Catalan club have rejected Messi’s proposal as they have their sights firmly set on other targets.
The report says Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu wants to focus all of his efforts on bringing Philippe Coutinho to the Nou Camp.
And he will not sanction a move for Pastore until a deal is wrapped up for the Liverpool star.
Don Balon claim the Reds will continue to make it difficult for Barca to reach an agreement with Coutinho in January.
And Bartomeu has realised this and will not allow anything to come between him and a deal for the Brazil international.
Speaking about Pastore’s future at PSG this month, Unai Emery claimed he knew nothing of his desire to leave the Ligue 1 giants.
“I’m very pleased with Pastore,” he said after PSG’s 3-1 win over Caen.
“He did not say he wanted to leave.
“He works to be on the field, with the very great talent he has.”
