The United Nation’s, General Assembly, the body that represents its 193 members, adopted a resolution that rejects the declaration of President Donald Trump recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

A total of 128 countries voted in favor of the text. The US itself rejected it with Israel, Guatemala, Honduras and five other countries.

There were 35 abstentions, including those in Canada and Mexico. Washington previously threatened to withdraw its aid to countries that support the resolution, despite not being binding.

Although the resolution rejects President Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and thereby move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to that area, the UN position will have no influence on Washington’s plans, according to the statement, the US ambassador, Nikki Haley.
“When we make generous contributions to the UN, we also have legitimate expectations that our goodwill will be recognized and respected,” said the controversial ambassador.

Even last Tuesday, Haley said she would “take note” of the countries that voted against her because the president would take it personally.

Trump, on the other hand, threatened yesterday to suspend financial aid to countries that voted in favor of the resolution that was presented by Yemen and Turkey on behalf of the Arab and Muslim countries.

“They take hundreds of millions of dollars and even billions of dollars and then vote against us,” the White House president said. “Well, we will be looking at those votes. Let them vote against us. We will save a lot. We do not care, “he said.
