One dead, many injured as Hausa clash with Gbagyi youths near Abuja
A deadly clash that erupted between residents living in Bwari community near Abuja on Christmas day, has left one dead and many injured.
The fight which was between Hausa and Gbagyi youths in the community, started after the turbaning of a new Hausa traditional ruler known as “Sarkin Bwari” who is of a different lineage from the Gbagyi people that are traditionally known to have the title of “Esu of Bwari”, Sahara Reporters reports.
Information gathered revealed that one person was killed and a mini market in the area was razed down as several houses were burnt down during the clash.
The Gbagyi residents accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mohammed Bello and other officials of conniving with non-natives to deprive the natives of their right to be the paramount ruler of the town.
The protest led to a lash between the Gbagyi youths and the Hausa in the community leading to several properties getting damaged.
Soldiers have been deployed to the community to put an end to the unrest.
