Footballer George Weah to become Liberia’s next president
Former Liberian footballer George Weah is set become the nations 25th President.
The one-time Ballon d’or winner on Wednesday scored more votes than his 73 year-old opponent Joseph Boakai who is the current vice president of the country.
Expressing his joy after the results were announced on Wednesday, Weah tweeted: “I am deeply grateful to my family, my friends, and my loyal supporters who contributed to our campaign during this extremely long election season”.
After 12 years and two presidential terms, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf will cede the command of the government of Liberia to Weah who won the elections on December 26.
