The Game Boy is back (but it’s not what you expect)

With the retro NES and SNES Classic Edition consoles running out as soon as they go on sale, it is very possible that Nintendo will soon relive some of its other popular consoles. However, before the Game Boy Classic Edition has the chance to become more than a rumour, the peripheral manufacturer Hyperkin will release its own version of the legendary hand game.

Temporarily called Ultra Game Boy while still in development, the name is actually a perfect description of the Hyperkin hardware, which improves the original Nintendo Game Boy in countless ways, without affecting the classic game that many of us remember.

The new features of the Ultra Game Boy will include a built-in six-hour battery, a USB-C port for charging, as well as a pair of stereo speakers and audio output connections. Why the improvements in the sound system of Game Boy when all his classic games only generate sound in mono? In addition to attracting retro players, Hyperkin’s Ultra Game Boy is also being customized for musicians who use the classical console to create modern electronic melodies. Yes, it exists, and it is a very popular thing.

Hyperkin hopes to have the Ultra Game Boy, or whatever it ends up calling itself, ready by the end of June, with a price of less than $ 100. It seems that Nintendo has a lot to do now, but the only thing that will be missing from the classic Hyperkin console are integrated games. You can play all your classic Game Boy games, and possibly even your Game Boy Color cartridges, although you will have to get all the original cartridges (I can already hear the prices shooting on eBay!). That might make it less attractive to some, but it will not stop me from rekindleing my devotion and obsession with the original games.
