- Both Fuenlabrada and Numancia have earned 2-2 draws at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu this season
- This might be more related to the fact Zinedine Zidane has been using heavily rotated lineups
- It doesn’t look good for the defending Spanish champions
- Real Madrid to play against Villarreal this Saturday
Real Madrid may have turned in another disappointing performance and result, being held to a 2-2 draw by second-tier Numancia, but Zinedine Zidane once again defended his players.
He has previously insisted that he thinks the current squad is good enough and repeated that rhetoric again.
“I believe in my squad and we will see what happens in the end,” he said in a post-match interview with beIN Sports.
“We qualified for the next round, which was the most important thing.
“There was one team that didn’t stop running and that wanted to play their game, a good game, and they managed to.
“We also played a good game.
“The result is a logical one because Numancia didn’t give up.”
Asked if it was frustrating to once again fail to win at home, Zidane said he wasn’t worrying about the home fans’ perceptions of the team.
“That doesn’t worry me,” he said when asked about the record at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
“I will keep working.
“Nobody will stop me from doing that.
“I cannot look at the criticism.”
Next up for Real Madrid as they aim to return to winning ways is a home match against Villarreal this Saturday.
