- The Puerto Rican artist unexpectedly announced marriage with his boyfriend for three years
- “We’re going to have a great party in a couple of months,” he said.
Puerto Rican singer Ricky Martin announced on Wednesday that he had married Jwan Yosef, his boyfriend for two years.
“I’m a husband now, but we’re going to have a big party in a couple of months, I’ll let you know, it’ll be a three-day party, but I still do not know when.
“It will be typical: reception, dinner and about everything,” he said with humor and enthusiasm during an interview with E! during the premiere of the series American Crime Story: Versace, which has him as the protagonist.
“We exchange vows and everything, we sign all the papers we need, prenuptial agreements included, I can no longer call him a boyfriend, he is my husband, it is amazing, what is happening to us,” added the artist.
The couple, who started dating in 2016, had announced their engagement on a TV show Ellen DeGeneres.
“I was the one who suggested it. I was very nervous, I knelt down and pulled out a small box … and instead of asking ‘Will you marry me?’ I said ‘I have something for you. “Too bad!” , he said at that moment.
“He said ‘yes’ I said ‘I want to spend the rest of my life with you’ and he answered ‘what is the question?’ Then I said, ‘Do you want to marry me?’ and he accepted, it was very beautiful, and a few minutes later I asked him: ‘Para, did you say yes? And yes, he had said yes,’ he added excitedly.
Jwan Yosef, a Swedish artist born in Syria 33 years ago – he is 12 years younger than his husband – met Martin through Instagram . “We talked about art, nothing sexy, it was all about art and about life in general, then I traveled to London and finally we met,” the singer said.
The couple announced their commitment in November of last year and for a few months now lives in Los Angeles , where they raise Matteo and Valentino twins that Martin had nine years ago.
Winner of two Grammy awards, he is one of the most important Latin American singers thanks to songs like “Livin ‘la Vida Loca”, “Sha Bangs”, “María” or “La Mordidita”, which have been around the world.
Martin is also known for his philanthropic side. After Hurricane Maria passed through Puerto Rico in September 2017, it has promoted several initiatives to raise money and products of first necessity for those affected.
He is UNICEF’s goodwill ambassador and has his own foundation focused on the rights of children and adolescents.
