Yobe state discovers 33 Niger citizens among Nigeria’s Libyan returnees
33 citizens of the Republic of Niger have been discovered by the Yobe state government to be among the 216 returnees from Libya which were received on Saturday, January 20, Channels reports.
The development was made public by Ahmed Mustapha, the state’s commissioner for justice.
Ahmed Mustapha disclosed that the foreigners were discovered following security checks, as the returnees were being dispatched to their various local government areas.
He stated: “After security checks, we discovered that 33 were from the Niger Republic and we are handing them over to the Nigeria Immigration Service who will also ensure they are taken back to their country.”
Speaking on the development, Adamu Abdulfatai, the state’s controller of immigration, stated that due process would be followed in handing the foreigners over to immigration officials in Niger Republic.
In his words: “We will be professional in linking up with the authorities of Niger Republic to ensure that they reunite with their families.”
