When Andy Rubin, co-founder of Android, announced the launch of his new phone Essential in mid-2017, it made headlines for being a different kind of smartphone.
But most times being different is not enough to succeed in an industry. As we speak, Essential has sold less than 90,000 units in six months.
According to market analysis firm IDC, they have sold just 88,000 units of the Essential Phone since its launch.
According to The Verge, the price of the phone has gone from $ 700 when it went on sale to the current $ 499.
As The Verge descrided it, Essential is still a startup but has some of the best expertise in the business alongside Rubin’s reputation. But unfortunately, it seems that no matter how reputale the founders are, it did not awaken enough interest.
