Cristiano Ronaldo has told Zinedine Zidane to dump Karim Benzema to the bench for Real Madrid’s reverse fixture against Paris Saint-Germain, sensational reports in Spain claim.
Real Madrid are in pole position to qualify for the last eight of the Champions League after securing a 3-1 win against PSG at the Bernabeu on Wednesday.
A 2-0 defeat to the French giants at Parc des Princes on March 6 would see Zinedine Zidane’s side crash out.
And, according to Spanish publication Don Balon , Ronaldo has urged Zidane to adopt a safety-first approach to the second leg.
It is claimed the Real Madrid superstar believes a 4-4-2 formation is the way to go to avoid leaking goals.
And he reportedly would rather be partnered by Gareth Bale in attack with Isco playing a deeper role in midfield.
Don Balon claim Ronaldo thinks they can catch PSG on the break if they have Bale up top instead of target man Benzema.
PSG impressed in the first leg and could have come away with a better result but for some sloppy finishing.
Adrien Rabiot fired them into the lead before Ronaldo levelled the scores on the stroke of half-time.
The Ligue 1 outfit had plenty of chances after the break but Ronaldo fired the hosts ahead from the penalty spot on 83 minutes before Marcelo wrapped up the victory.
Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos warned against complacency from his team-mates ahead of the reverse leg.
“We have taken an important step, but the tie is more than open, it’s time to keep working,” he said.
“It is an important victory, these are the days to remember in your career.
“We must continue in this line in the second leg. We have done a great job.
“In spite of what they say to Real Madrid, we are not dead.”
