Samsung smashes its own record with a 30 TB SSD, the largest you can buy
Most likely, you do not need a 30 terabyte SSD, but now you can have it. Samsung has started to mass-produce the new PM1643, a solid-state drive the size of a conventional hard drive that combines 32 1 TB NAND memories to double the capacity of its previous record SSD.
Although, it is not the largest SSD unit in the world , it is the largest capacity you can buy. The breakthrough was made possible by Samsung’s super-dense NAND memories containing 16 layers of V-NAND chips of 512 GB each.
According to Samsung’s estimates , a 30 TB SSD can store approximately 170,000 HD movies, but the new PM1643 is not aimed at the end consumer but at the business environments. According to reports, its price (which has not been announced) could reach four zeros.
The SSD PM1643 30 TB unit has read and write speeds of 400,000 and 50,000 IOPS respectively, and sequential read and write speeds of 2100 MB/s and 1700 MB/s respectively, four times the performance of a typical SATA SSD drive. 2.5 inches.
