Trump supporters lose thousands of followers on Twitter in a purge of fake users
In the last 24 hours Twitter has suspended thousands of fake accounts in what looks like a purge of bots from Russia. It is not the first time this is happening, but this time the purge has been primed especially with the followers of various conservative accounts that support Trump.
Users affected by the purge have lost up to 3,500 followers and are not happy. Some have the hasthtag #TwitterLockOut in what they consider a political maneuver by Twitter to limit its weight in the social network.
According to reports, none of the suspended accounts belong to legitimate users. Although that has not stopped accounts like the neo-Nazi Richard Spencer who has lost about one thousand followers, from ranting and accusing Twitter of suspending legitimate users.
Bill Mitchell, who is a well-known conservative voice and defender of the policies of Donald Trump in the United States, assures that the purge has caused him to lose 4,000 followers.
Some of the most angry users are campaigning to abandon Twitter in favour of a new social network called Gab. In recent months, Gab is gaining considerable appeal between white supremacists and neo-Nazis expelled from conventional networks.
