Signal, Edward Snowden’s preferred messaging app, receives its first investment of 50 million dollars from Brian Acton, co-founder of WhatsApp.
Brian Acton who left WhatsApp/Facebook in 2017, believes “there is an opportunity to act in the public interest and make a meaningful contribution to society by building sustainable technology that respects users and does not rely on the commoditization of personal data.”
How will this affect Signal? It’s too early to know, although now that the platform have received financial boost, expect to see more news from Signal, sooner . Brian Acton will surely bring his years for WhatsApp into the new platform.
Signal uses standard cellular mobile numbers as identifiers, and uses end-to-end encryption to secure all communications to other Signal users. The applications include mechanisms by which users can independently verify the identity of their messaging correspondents and the integrity of the data channel.
