In October last year, it was reported that an all-electric Hyundai Kona would be presented at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. Today, we have confirmed reports about the said Hyundai Kona EV, the first electric SUV from the Korean company.
According to multiple sources, the range of the Hyundai Kona segment B will offer two versions of different power and battery capacity, with a maximum of up to 470 kilometers with a single charge. This means that, the Kona can compete face to face in terms of electric autonomy with the best in the market.
Aesthetically, the Kona EV differs from the rest of its brothers in the range with a closed front grille, certainly futuristic look, the so-called “twin headlights” with LED daytime running lights, and 17-inch wheels. The Kona measures 4.18 meters long, 1.8 meters wide and 1.57 meters high.
The electric motor of the Kona EV offers two power levels: the access version will have 99 kW or 135 HP, and a range of about 300 kilometers, thanks to a battery with a capacity of 39.2 kWh. It promises an energy consumption of 14.8 kWh at 100 kilometers, 0 to 100 km / h in 9.3 seconds and 167 km / h maximum speed.
Both versions offer a maximum torque of 395 Nm , but the most powerful has a power of 150 kW or 204 hp, as well as a range of up to 470 kilometers facilitated by a battery of 64 kWh . In this case the energy consumption is 15.2 kWh per hundred kilometers and its performance is 0 to 100 km / h in 7.6 seconds and a top speed of 167 km / h.
At the moment, the autonomy figures are internal data of the company, taking into account the new WLTP approval cycle . For its part, Hyundai announces a fast charge with the lithium polymer battery that is able to recover 80% of the load in 54 minutes in a 100 kW outlet. With the onboard charger (7.2 kW), the full charge in a domestic socket takes 6 hours and 10 minutes for the access version and 9 hours and 40 minutes for the most powerful.
The interior of the Kona EV offers various options of upholstery (fabric, leather / fabric or full-grain leather) and a 7-inch digital instrument panel that offers all the relevant driving information: speedometer, level of battery charge, energy management graph, etc … Depending on the chosen driving mode, the design of the frame changes and, in addition, a Head-Up Display is available.
The front seats of this SUV are electric and adjustable in eight positions, to which two lumbar adjustments are added in the case of the driver’s seat. They are also heated and ventilated , with three levels of operation, and optionally the steering wheel can also be heated. The trunk, on the other hand, offers a capacity of 332 liters.
In terms of connectivity, the Kona EV is compatible with Apple Car Play and Android Auto, with Bluetooth, USB and auxiliary charging or induction charging for compatible mobile phones and, optionally, with an 8-inch screen browser that includes reversing camera. Also new is Krell’s eight-speaker audio system , including subwoofer.
Among the driving assistants, is an adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go function, lane change or lane maintenance assistant, dead angle warning, frontal collision warning with pedestrian detection, the cross traffic warning and fatigue detector.
