Earlier this year, Google announced that its Hangouts messaging service would evolve into two applications to focus exclusively on the professional field. When it was launched in March last year, the new video call application Hangouts Meet showed a preview of what would be Hangouts Chat.
Now almost a year later, Google officially launches Hangouts Chat, its new corporate messaging application with which it will compete against services like Slack and HipChat.
As with Hangouts Meet, only G Suite users can use Hangouts Chat to chat with their coworkers.
Hangouts Chat offers organization a powerful communication tool in which their employees can create chat rooms, send direct messages and share documents.
The application is fully integrated with G Suite services and allows the integration of third-party tools such as Asana, Box, Prosperworks or Zendesk. It also has a bot that will review the calendars of all in a room to schedule events.
What will happen to the old Hangouts?
At the moment Google has not yet reported on the future of the old Hangouts. The only thing it has said is that you can still use classic Hangouts to continue chatting. You can download Hangouts Chat on Play Store.
