A medical center Westchester, United States, had to be closed this Wednesday after reported shooting happened inside the building, according to authorities.
According to different reports from the local press, a man had murdered his wife on the fourth floor of the hospital in the town of Valhalla, New York, before attempting suicide.
The authorities at Valhalla confirmed the shooting via their Twitter account, although they did not provide more details about the episode. They also noted that the incident took place in one room and that the situation has been put under control.
The local news channel 4 described the event as a “murder followed by attempted suicide” in the medical facility with about 652 beds that serves 120,000 patients per year.
While the portal Lohud , part of USA Today, indicated that the suspect might have entered the hospital at 9:30 a.m. (local time), climbed to the fourth floor and shot his wife, before directing the weapon to himself .
The last shooting in the US hospital took place in 2017, when a doctor who had been fired entered the Bronx-Lebanon medical center and killed one person and wounded six others with an AR-15 assault rifle. Then he committed suicide.
